The Peace That Comes From Forgiving
What does it really take to sleep peacefully… even when your heart is heavy?
When people hurt you, misunderstand you, or even wish bad for you out of jealousy or hatred… your first instinct is to react. To defend yourself. To give it back.
And honestly, you have every right to.
But when you slow down and really think about it, you realize something.
It’s not worth your peace.
The Bible says to forgive your enemies. At first, that feels almost impossible. You might think, “If I respond, if I make them feel what I felt, maybe I’ll finally get peace.”
But that’s not true.
Real peace comes from letting go.
I’m not saying this lightly. I’ve lived it.
There were times when people I trusted deeply hurt me. They spoke against me, treated me badly, not even for their own gain, but for others. It didn’t make sense. I kept asking myself what I should do.
Should I get angry?
Should I respond the same way?
Should I hurt them back?
I had all those thoughts.
But when I spent time in God’s presence and read His word, something changed in me. I chose to forgive.
And here’s the surprising part.
The situation didn’t immediately change. The people didn’t suddenly become better.
But I did.
I could sleep peacefully. I could walk freely without carrying that weight inside me. I knew I had done my part. I knew I hadn’t hurt them intentionally. And that gave me a kind of peace I can’t fully explain.
That is real freedom.
Not everything in life will be fair. Not everyone will treat you right. But holding on to bitterness only hurts you more.
Forgiveness is not weakness. It’s strength. It’s choosing peace over pride.
And honestly, I believe this kind of peace comes only from Jesus.
When you follow His words, you begin to live differently. Lighter. Freer.
And that’s a life worth choosing.
With love,
Sam
